Fixing Exchange Web virtual Directory Errors in Exchange 2000

Fixing the Exchange Web virtual Directory Errors that appear when you boot up.

Q. In Internet Services Manager public, Exchange, Exadmin show an error status.
A. If you have installed Exchange 2000 a number of extra IIS virtualdirectories are added whose contain comes from the M drive (the Exchange store):

When IIS service starts if the M: drive is not available the above virtual directories will be listed as error (but will continue to work fine) and 3 101 events will be listed in the Event log. To stop it happening at each reboot make the web service dependant on the Exchange Information Store service:

• Start the registry editor (regedt32.exe)
• Move to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W3SVC
• Double click DependOnService
• Add on the next free line:
• MSExchangeIS
• Click OK
• Close the registry editor

Obviously if you remove Exchange 2000 you must remove the service dependency on
MSExchangeIS or the web service will not start.
