"Permission denied" when you Offer Remote Assistance to an XP SP2 Computer

You are connecting from any XP SP1 or SP2 computer to another computer.  The other computer has been upgraded to SP2.  It worked before, and now it doesn't.

You've wasted your time on these:

KB310629: Permission Denied Error When You Are Using Offer Remote Assistance

KB884910: You cannot offer remote assistance to a user whose computer is running Windows XP Service Pack 2

Get a PC that you CAN connect to.  Compare this machine's Registry at this location:


The broken machine will be missing entries.  Delete the entire key after you back it up (export).  Export the key from the working machine and then Import it onto the broken machine.  Reboot.

Problem solved.
